what we do.

five°degrees is a Fintech, with 150+ employees based in Amsterdam, Lisbon, Reykjavik, and Novi Sad. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the old and the new world for core banking systems. We achieve this by offering a cloud-native core banking platform to banks and financial services.

Our core product is called °neo. We started working on it two years ago with design thinking at its core. Before we wrote a single line of code we spoke to actual users, understood their problems, and came up with genuinely innovative ways to make their working lives better. Then we validated those solutions, and finally, we started building. 

your role.

As a Product Owner, you will play a crucial role in the product development of five°degrees by setting the company’s product vision and developing the related technology strategies. To do so, you need to be able to cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and understand, define and prioritize the needs of our clients.

your responsibilities.

  • “Owning” the product’s experience and features and be the product evangelist to constantly explain the concept and value of the platform, both internally as well as externally.
  • Researching and gathering requirements for the different international markets in our target geography.
  • Provide input on the long-term, overall product vision of the platform as defined by Product Management, while delivering added value after every sprint.
  • Prioritizing and building a feature roadmap to support the long-term product roadmap.
  • As part of the agile release train; plan, prepare and participate in planning increments to work towards a committed backlog for your teams.
  • Make sure all stories for your teams are designed, refined, documented and according to UX & architectural guidelines before the sprint starts.
  • Support the developers and testers in detailed questions, unclarities, dependencies with other teams or impediments.
  • Write user documentation input for the developer’s portal.
  • Take pride in a well-groomed backlog, accurately estimated, updated statuses and transparent in dependencies.
  • Proactively look for opportunities to improve the product and the efficiency of the teams.
  • Be an internal expert on banking products in the market: both from our competitors as well as our partners.
  • Support the Implementation Consultants when delivering the product to a client and facilitating the Sales Team in the sales process.

As a member of the agile release you will be the client’s proxy responsible for determining high-value features. You will be working in close collaboration with internal stakeholders, such as sales, architects, and the other PO’s, and define and prioritize epics & stories in the backlog of your teams. As well as maintaining the conceptual overview across teams, addressing dependencies and supporting the technical integrity of the features and architecture for the whole platform.

  • Proven analytical and designing skills, preferably at a consulting firm or product company.
  • Experience with interaction on C-Level and across IT and business units.
  • Experience and passion for (cloud-native) development, preferably based on Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong communicator, able to switch between an innovative product vision and detailed functionality. Challenge each other to come to an even better design, not to win an argument.
  • Passion and commitment for client success.
  • Take responsibility for your own input, but also for the team as a whole.
  • Work experience in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in banking or technology.
  • Finance background, or able to be a subject matter expert on financial products and processes, backed by multiple years of experience working in the digital or IT domain at a bank or FinTech.
  • You are a digital native that knows loads about tech, business, and UX.
  • Preferably: Familiar with SAFe or other Agile/Lean product development practices. Must have experience in working with teams using Scrum.
  • Experience working with remote teams will help you a lot.
  • You are a social person with great communication skills and the talent to motivate people in the right direction.
